Wed, May 11, 2011 - 15.32 mi [Cycling] Tadcaster to York via Acaster Malbis

Wed, May 11, 2011 - 15.32 mi [Cycling]

15.32 mi in 01:05:45 hours at 13.98 mi/h on Pinnacle Hybrid. [Cycling]
Beautiful evening for a cycle back to York the scenic way turning right
over the Wharfe in Tadcaster and then the back lanes through Bolton Percy,
Appleton Roebuck and Acaster Malbis before heading up the cycle path
which was the old Selby railway line and into York along Terry Lane
past the Millenium Bridge.

Photographs :

0 miles : This is Tadcaster Brewery were the famous John Smith's is brewed

3.7 miles : Bolton Percy cricket field being rolled.

4.7 miles : The view looking south towards Eggborough Power Station and
circling above was a Chinook helicopter.

4.7 miles : Th main East Coast Train Line - I waited 15 minutes
and the only train that passed was this little one.

5 miles : An old windmill just before the lovely village
of Appleton Roebuck.

5 miles : I crept through the Oil Rapeseed fields to get a closer
shot of the windmill with some clouds which appear to
be billowing out of it against a gorgeous blue sky.

5 miles : Inside an abandoned windmill.

9.2 miles : The river Ouse near Acaster Malbis.

9.2 miles : A closer look at a river barge.

9.5 miles : The village pub in Acaster Malbis is the Ship Inn and there's a
lovely patio area out front which overlooks the River Ouse- didn't stop
this time but a future visit is planned.

10.9 miles : The bridge across the River Ouse between Acaster Malbis and
Naburn is the old Selby Railway line which has now been turned into an
excellent cycle path with lots of scultures along the route. Here we can see
a huge metal framework fisherman fishing the Ouse with great expectation.

11.1 miles : Along the 10 mile length of the cycle path the
9 planets have been laid out to scale with pluto being
10 miles down the path near Riccall. This is Jupiter which
can be found near Bishopthorpe. Not only are the distances
between theplanets to scale but the actual size of the planets is
scaled as well - Jupiter is about football size whereas the earth
is only about a large marble size.

12.2 miles : This is the sun .... well actually 2 suns as the real one is in the
background - It's almost a Solar eclipse ! The sun can be found just under
the A64 on the York side near the College.

13.1 miles : This is the view from about the 5 furlong marker on the finishing
straight at York Racecourse (The Knavesmire). The races were actually on the
next 2 days - you can see the grandstand in the distance.

14.4 miles : The Millenium Bridge in York which was opened
in 2001 ... lol

  1. Hi there,
I am working on some artwork for City of York Council and we have been struggling to find a great Knavesmire image. I wondered whether you would be happy to supply us the image on this blog for us to use in their new public building? If you could contact me at our SoVibrant offices that would be great ... 01423 789388.
    Many thanks,Victoria
