Activity :

Stroll up through the City Centre and up to the Cathedral - first time visit to Durham Cathedral and saw both Bede and Cuthberts tombs. I then paid £4 and climbed the Central Tower which is nearly 300feet staight up a narrow spiral staircase. The views from the top were well worth the effort and you could see right across Gateshead and even ino Newcastle.

Pub & Beer :

The Market Tavern in Durham was busy and a traditional wooden floored pub with two large bay windows looking across the market. I tried a pint of Houston Texas at 4.3 % ABV which I would only score 5/10 a pleasant ruby red ale with a high bitterness and good mouthfeel however it did have a string acetic note.

Route In :
Following the cycle path along the river and then up through Dragonville & Carville crossing the A1 and up to Pittington skirting the top of Ramside Golf Club. Continuing on this time past Elemore Golf Club and into Hetton then a right turn onto the Murton Road, but only for a short distance turning off down the track up to Warden Law and the Windmills. From there its a fast down hill ride across the A19 and shkirting Sunderland all the way down to Ryhope. Up thorugh Grangetown and following the A1018 into teh City - across the Wearmouth Bridge and along the River to the Marina & piers. From there its along the coast through Seaburn to Whitburn then up through the Boldon Flats and past Tilesheds onto North road and up to ASDA again and back Hime for a well earned rest.
